Admitting you need help reveals COURAGE and STRENGTH, not weakness. To begin a new year, Safe Place Counseling serving Salt Lake City, Sandy and the Utah County area has launched a new website updated with new designs and features to make it easier to navigate and find the help that you need. The site has added new screening tools for depression, mood disorders, eating disorders, and trauma to help you decide if counseling would be right for you. The “links” page now includes books that are recommended for different mental health issues, and we have added a new link to help you make appointments easily and online.
The goal of Safe Place Counseling is to provide a safe place to heal from all the difficulties life has handed you. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and other helpful therapies are used and, this month, we are starting a neurofeedback program which can be helpful for everyone, especially clients with ADHD or anxiety.
Deanna Nichols is a unique licensed counselor because she is also a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) and certified personal trainer (CPT). This gives her a strong background to help clients suffering from eating disorders and weight issues. She also counsels those preparing or those who have received bariatric surgery. Most people with weight issues have some form of trauma from their past, whether it be from bullying, a difficult childhood, or sexual abuse. Those issues must be resolved for weight loss or weight surgery to be successful because when stress, depression, or anxiety arise, the coping strategy is usually to eat or restrict.
Everyone needs a safe place…. a safe place to be yourself, to be heard, to receive empathy and hope, and to break down if you need to. If you or someone you know have suffered a traumatic event, whether recent or some years in the past, and are struggling with the difficult lingering emotions and other after effects, help is here.
